摘要

Silicon Carbide containing ceramics have been evaluated for their use as reactortubes in a steam-methane reformer being developed by Stone & Webster. Screening tests, using ceramic coupons exposed to simulated syngas mixtures at up to 2300 deg F, have shown that at high temperatures, steam partial pressure is an important parameter in the extent of steam attack of the silicon carbide. However, there are operating conditions, e.g. steam partial pressure below 60 PSIA, which will minimize the extent of silicon carbide attack. Further testing of coupons, tubular shapes, and ceramic to metal joints is being conducted at Oak Ridge National laboratory and at the Center for Advanced Materials (CAM) at Pennsylvania State University.
