Definition, Understanding and Design of Aircraft Handling Qualities

This report describes how handling qualities came to be defined and developedinto standard sets of criteria and requirements in the 1940's, and were then refined and expanded in the 1950's and 1960's. The importance of the control system hardware is noted. The major problem of the pilot induced oscillation is explained, and methods are indicated to eliminate it by design.
