Self-Management Educational Program for Severe Asthmatic Children: Evaluation ofRural Medical, Educational and Service Delivery Outcomes

The University of New Mexico Pediatric Pulmonary Program and Children's MedicalServices of New Mexico joined together to evaluate the effects of a new statewide program to enhance identification, referral, and provision of care to rural families of children with moderately severe to severe asthma. The specific aim of this project was to determine whether comprehensive medical care plus an educational self-management program for rural children and their families has an impact on asthma morbidity, as well as on cost and family adaptation.
