Use of Stainless Steels in Transport Vehicles

The main objective of the Finnish subproject was to optimise the application ofhigh strength stainless steels in the welded structures of road transportation vehicles. By performing welded tests and by evaluating the mechanical and corrosion properties of the joints, the project aimed at improving the quality and fabrication of load carrying, corrosion resistant vehicle structures. The potential economic and environmental benefits available by the use of stainless steels in vehicles were also evaluated by life cycle cost (LCC) and life cycle assessment (LCA) analyses.
