Replacing cracked concrete in roadways requiresrnlanes to be closed and traff c disrupted. One wayrnto reduce road closure time is to reduce concreterncuring time. To accelerate curing time, pavementrnengineers mix a very low water-cement ratio withrna large amount of Portland cement. While thernmixture dries quickly, the replacement slabs arernsusceptible to early-age drying shrinkage, whichrncan potentially cause the replacement slabs torncrack. One way to lessen the risk of cracking andrnto strengthen concrete is to add f bers to thernconcrete mix. However, except for bridge deckrnapplications, there is no standard specif cation forrnthe use of f ber reinforced concrete (FRC) in thernconstruction of concrete roadways.
