摘要

From January 1993 through March 1994, circulation patterns and water-quality211u001echaracteristics in Lake Hickory varied seasonally and were strongly influenced by 211u001einflows of Lake Hickory was unstratified during much of the study period. 211u001eDownstream from the headwaters to Oxford Dam, Lake Hickory thermally stratified 211u001eduring the summer of 1993. During stratifiation, releases from Rhodhiss Dam 211u001eplunged beneath the warmer surface waters of Lake Hickory and moved through the 211u001ereservoir an interflow. During fall and winter, Lake Hickory was characterized by 211u001ealternating periods of mixing and weak stratification. Water-quality conditions 211u001ein the headwaters of Lake Hickory were largely driven by conditions in water 211u001ebeing released from Rhodhiss Dam. In general, water clarity increased, and 211u001econcentrations of suspended solids, phosphorus, and summertime chlorophyll a 211u001edecreased in a downstream direction from the headwaters of Lake Hickory to Oxford 211u001eDam.
