A static image principle makes it possible to derive analytical solutions to somebasic geometries for DC fields. These solutions will be of value when assessing the performance of different measuring techniques and their sensitivity. The underwater environment is especially difficult both from the theoetical and practical point of view. However, there is increasing demand that also the underwater geological formations should be studied in detail. Thence the need for theoretical considerations concerning also DC methods. The traditional image of a point source lies at the mirror point of the original. When anisotropic media is involved, however, the image location changes the image source itself can be a continuous, sector-like distribution. In the paper some theoretical considerations are carried out in the case where it is assumed that the bottom layer has a very general anisotropy in terms of electrical conductivity. Potential fields are calculated on the surface of the bottom layer.
