Fatality Assessment and Control Evaluation (FACE) Report: Fence Technician Pinned211 Inside Cargo Van by Line Laying Machine, North Carolina

On May 21, 1998, a 22-year-old male fence technician trainee (the victim) for an211u001einvisible fence distributorship was caught between the handlebar of a line-laying 211u001emachine and the rear door jamb of a cargo van as he attempted to unload the 211u001emachine. The victim was accompanying the hed fence-technician during initial job 211u001etraining and had been dispatched to a residence to complete a fence installation 211u001ewhich had been started by another technician. While preparing to begin work, the 211u001evictim entered the back of the cargo van to unload the machine. When he started 211u001ethe machine's engine, the machine either immediately moved in reverse or moved in 211u001ereverse when he engaged the reverse drive mechanism. The handlebars of the 211u001emachine pinned the victim against the inside upper edge of the van's rear door 211u001ejamb.
