This report contains the test procedures, test setup, and test results from the211u001esecond of three broadside crash tests conducted at the Federal Highway 211u001eAdministration (FHWA) Federal Outdoor Impact Laboratory (FOIL), located at the 211u001eTurner-Fairbank Highway Research Center (TFHRC) in McLean, Virgnia. The National 211u001eHighway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) enlisted the FHWA to aid in the 211u001edevelopment of laboratory test procedures to be used in an amended version of 211u001eFederal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) 201. Four crash tests with Honda 211u001eAccord LX and the (FOIL) 300K instrumented rigid pole (test numbers 97S003, 211u001e97S004, 97S005, 97S006) produced a test methodology for conducting broadside 211u001evehicle crash tests of dynamic side-impact head protection systems (e.g., air 211u001ebags). Once the test procedures were established, these three additional 211u001ebroadside crash tests were conducted to demonstrate the practicality and 211u001efeasibility of the new test procedures.
