The transmission of E-mail over high-frequency (HF) radio channels is211u001eexperiencing widespread use in the Government and military communities. This 211u001eability is made possible trough the convergence of Internet and radio 211u001ecommunication protocols, primarily by the implementation of transmission control 211u001eprotocol/internet protocol (TCP/IP) for radio channels. One popular 211u001eimplementation is a software package called JNOS, initially developed by the 211u001eamateur radio community. JNOS has been adapted for use over HF channels and has 211u001ebeen demonstrated to perform at acceptable levels. This report presents data that 211u001echaracterizes the performance of the HF E-mail system in a controlled 211u001eenvironment, using HF channel simulators.
