This report describes the work conducted from 1993 to 1998 to develop cost-211u001eeffective 'new breeds' of organic, inorganic, ceramic and metallic coatings, as 211u001ewell as metallic alloys that can be utilized on or as reinforcement for embedment 211u001ein portland cement concrete. As part of the study, 12 different bar types were 211u001etested in concrete: black bars, 3 bendable and 3 nondendable epoxies, Type 304 211u001eand Type 316 stainless steel, copper-clad, galvanized and spray metallic-clad 211u001ereinforcing. Measurements of macrocell voltages, half-cell potentials, electrical 211u001eimpedance spectroscopy, linear polarization and mat-to-mat resistances were used 211u001ein conjunction with visual observations to determine the effectiveness of each 211u001esystem.
