This report from the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research presents211u001eestimates of health status and limitations for the civilian noninstitutionalized 211u001epopulation of the United States during calendar year 1996. Estimates are shown 211u001eseparately for Hispanics, blacks, and whites. Data are derived from the 1996 211u001eMedical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) Household Component (HC). Health status 211u001ewas rated from excellent to poor by household respondents. Five types of 211u001efunctional limitations were assessed: activities of daily living (ADLs); 211u001einstrumental activities of daily living (IADLs); limitations in physical 211u001eactivities such as walking; limitations in the ability to work, go to school, or 211u001edo housework; and cognitive limitations.
