Various stress measurement techniques were evaluated in this study. The211u001eevaluation included a state-of-the-art review of existing techniques and 211u001eanalytical studies of these techniques. Based on analytical results the flat-jack 211u001edirect stress measurement technique was evaluated in laboratory and field tests. 211u001eBased on these tests a manual of instruction was written to describe the 211u001eequipment and procedures required to obtain reliable direct stress measurements.
