1,2,3,4-Butanetetracarboxylic acid (BTCA) is a widely used industrial chemical211u001ethat has potential new applications in the finishing of permanent press fabrics. 211u001eDevelopmental toxicity assessments of this chemical have not been previously 211u001ereported. In a screening study, Sprague-Dawley-derived rats were dosed by gavage 211u001ewith BTCA (0, 62.5, 125, 250, 500 or 1000 mg/kg body weight/day) on gestational 211u001edays (gd) 6 through 19 (NTP, 1998). At 1000 mg/kg/day, material toxicity included 211u001emorbidity (1/15 females) and minor alternations in food and water intake. 211u001eEvidence of developmental toxicity was limited to a decreasing trend for male 211u001efetal body weight.
