Standards Road Map Project. Criteria Analysis: A Task of the Manufacturing-211 Enterprise-Integration Project

This document describes a research project to recommend a decision tool that the211u001eManufacturing Systems Integration Division (MSID) could use during its strategic-211u001eplanning process to evaluate which standards activities to support. This paper 211u001edescribes the criteria selected to give priority, in National Institute of 211u001eStandards and Technology (NIST) and MSID terms, to the standards activities that 211u001eNIST and MSID do, or should, support. There are criteria for judging the quality 211u001eof the standard itself, independent of how applicable to the NIST mission. Other 211u001ecriteria are designed to help MSID decide whether or not to participate in a 211u001estandard's development. A computer-aided, decision-analysis tool was used to show 211u001ethat computer assistance would be useful to make decisions when many variables 211u001eimpact that decision.
