At Defense Research Establishment of Sweden (FOA) research is performed on gated211u001eviewing using laser radar as source of illuminatin, producing laser energy 211u001ereflection-intensity images of 'slices' of the terrain. Benefits from using gated 211u001eviewing with laser radar are penetration of obscurants (smoke, camouflage nets, 211u001eetc), better angular resolution for a certain aperture and combined 2-D imaging 211u001eand range measurements. The purpose of this report is to investigate ways of 211u001edeveloping an automatic target detection scheme for gated viewing images. Mainly 211u001ethe report focuses on state-of-the-art 3-D image processing algorithms, but some 211u001eattention is also payed to statistically based target detection and texture based 211u001etarget detection.
