Emissions of Polychlorinated Biphenyls as Products of Incomplete Combustion from211 Incinerators

The paper discusses emissions of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) as products of211u001eincomplete combustion from incinerators. PCBs were used widely as industrial 211u001echemicals, particularly as additives in electrical transformer cooling oil. PCBs 211u001eare still being released into the environment as an unwanted by-product of 211u001ecombustion processes, particularly those associated with chlorinated materials. A 211u001esubset of PCBs, coplanar isomers, exhibit biological activity similar to that of 211u001epolychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans 211u001e(PCDDs/PCDFs), a widely recognized byproduct of combustion processes. The paper 211u001epresents background information on some of the combustion sources that generate 211u001ePCBs.
