On November 24, 1998, two career fire fighters ages 27 and 46 years old (the211u001evictims) were electrocuted when the aluminum extension ladder they were using 211u001econtacted an overhed powerline. On November 26, 1998, the U.S. Fire 211u001eAdministration notified NIOSH of the incident. On December 14, 1998, a Safety and 211u001eOccupational Health Specialist from NIOSH investigated the incident. The incident 211u001ewas reviewed with the attorney for the City, the Chief of the fire department and 211u001etwo of the fire fighters at the scene of the incident, a representative of the 211u001elocal utility company, an investigator from the Kansas Human Resources 211u001eDepartment, and the Chief and an investigator from the local police department. 211u001ePhotographs of the incident site and ladder were taken and the medical examiner's 211u001ereport was requested.
