Vegetation Resources Inventory of Southwest Alaska: Development and Application211 of an Innovative, Extensive Sampling Design

An assessment of the vegetation reosurces of southwest Alaska was made by using211u001ean inventory design developed by the Pacific Northwest Research Station. 211u001eStatellite imagery (LANDSAT MSS), high-altitude aerial photography, and ground 211u001esampling were the major components of the design. Estimates of area for all land 211u001ecover classes in the southwest region were produced. Additionally, more intensive 211u001esampling provided data for estimation of timber resources in the forest land 211u001ecomponent. Field data collection was conducted from 1991 to 1994, and data 211u001ecompilation progress through 1995.
