Diffusion in the cellular structure of coniferous wood was modeled. The cellular211u001estructure in the models consisted of tracheids, cell walls and pit apertures 211u001ebetween adjacent cells. The characterization of wood, veneers and plywood was 211u001edone with a combination of different methods, such as mercury intrusion, 211u001eporosimetry, gamma-ray attenuation and microscopy with image analysis. Diffusion 211u001eand sorption experiments were done to support the modeling work. This work 211u001eassesses moisture transport and sorption phenomena in wood, plywood and LVL 211u001erelated to the surrounding environmental humidity conditions. Part of the 211u001emodeling was focused on finding a possible connection between the heterogeneous 211u001ecellular structure of wood and the non-Fickian moisture diffusion phenomena 211u001ereported by several researchers.
