The acoustic wave field due to a supersonic motion of a rigid object over a half-211u001espace is investigated. The research presented here is of great importance for the 211u001emodeling of the transmitted and reflected conical waves that are excited by 211u001eairplanes that fly over sea or land. The media involved are acoustically modeled 211u001eas homogeneous, isotropic fluids and the moving object is represented as an 211u001eacoustic source of the dipole type. The linearized acoustic field equations are 211u001eapplied to obtain representations for the fields in a combined Laplace-Fourier 211u001etransform domain. To these representations, which are mapped into the proper 211u001eform, we apply the Cagniard-de Hoop technique in order to find closed phenomena, 211u001elike head waves and reflected and transmitted conical waves, come forward from 211u001ethe procedure as partial results with precursive fronts and clearly defined 211u001etrailing edges. Numerical results for the reflected as well as the transmitted 211u001econical wave are presented.
