NEONET-WATERNET. Definition Study for the Implementation of WAQUARIUS: A WWW Information Provider Dedicated to Remote Sensing and Water Quality.

The NEONET program aims at the realization of a well-organized remote sensing data infrastructure for the Netherlands scientific and operational user community. This infrastructure should meet the long-term demand of the users in terms of data availability, data processing and data storage and should allow the Dutch user community an active participation in (inter)national earth observation activities. Six application facilities have been defined to function within this infrastructure, WaterNET being one of them. The aim of the WaterNET project is the development and establishment of a well-known Internet site called WAQUARIUS, to make water quality related remote sensing data and other supporting information easy accessible to professionals in the field of marine and inland water quality and remote sensing. Moreover, WAQUARIUS should serve as a medium for communication between these professionals. WAQUARIUS will function within the NEONET infrastructure and make use of the NEONET Core facilities.
