Four flake furnishes differing in either target length and width or in production211u001emethods were combined and degraded to establish 13 different furnish types. 211u001eSamples from each furnish type were then examined using image analysis 211u001etechniques. By taking the data from smallest to largest, percentile values were 211u001eobtained for long chord, width, area, and perimeter. Cumulative distribution 211u001ecurves visuallly presented the difference in these geometric descriptors between 211u001efurnish types. Data were analyzed to determine the descriptors most useful in 211u001epredicting the flake alignment potential as well as the board properties of 211u001ebending modulus of elasticity, shear stress, thickness swell, and linear 211u001eexpansion.
