摘要

The Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) program is designed to reducechild and youth mortality and morbidity sustained due to severe illness and trauma. It aims to ensure state-of-the-art emergency medical care for the ill or injured child and adolescent; to fully integrate child health services into an emergency medical services (EMS) system backed by optimal resources and to make certain that the entire spectrum of emergency services, including primary prevention of illness and injury, acute care, and rehabilitation, is provided to children and adolescents as well as adults. An important goal f the EMSC program is to develop broad support for improving pediatric emergency medical services. To address this goal, the EMSC 5-Year Plan 1995-2000 included an objective to convene a national conference on EMSC issues, bringing together a multi-disciplinary audience to learn about the issues and to promote collaborative efforts for system improvement.
