Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Programs: Improving the Community Response to Sexual Assault Victims

The OVC-funded Guide has been a valuable training and technical assistance tool, but 3 years later, we at OVC believed it was time to pause and take a look at the impact of SANE programs on victims of sexual assault, the practitioners who serve these victims, and their communities. It was time to check back with some of the older, established programs and the newer programs to find out what is working and why. Although most of the data reported in this bulletin are anecdotal, we believe it offers valuable insight into the difference that a SANE program makes to victims and their communities. In addition, as the number of SANE programs has grown, so have the information, technical assistance, and resources that are available to support these programs.This bulletin describes some of the resources that are available through the Office for Victim of Crime and other public and professional organizations.
