Consistency Determination for Granting a Suspension of Production for Aera Energy LLC's Point Sal Unit (Pacific Outer Continental Shelf Leases OCS-P 0415, 0416, 0421, and 0422)

This consistency determination is submitted in compliance with section 307(c)(1) of the Coastal Zone Management Act ((16 U.S.C. 1456(c)(1)), (CZMA) and the regulations promulgated thereunder.In accordance with the Federal Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972, as amended, the Minerals Management (MMS) has determined that granting a suspension of production (SOP) for the Point Sal Unit is consistent to the maximum extent practicable with the California Coastal Management Program (CCMP), pursuant to the requirements of the Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972, as amended, (CZMA) and the California Coastal Act of 1976, as amended (CCA). The proposed activity subject to this review is the granting by the Minerals Management Service of a suspension of production (SOP) request filed by the operator of the Point Sal Unit under the provisions of the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act (OCSLA), 43 U.S.C. 1334(a)(1). The applicant requests a suspension of 31 months, within which to conduct certain in-office activities and to conduct shallow hazards and biological surveys on the Unit that will result in the submission of either, (1) a new Exploration Plan (EP) or, (2) revisions to the currently approved EP for the Point Sal Unit.
