摘要

CIAN Split was founded in 1947 by the National Republic of Croatia to provide sanitary protection and pest control. In 1992, the company privatized and changed its name to CIAN, Ltd., Split. With increased awareness for the environment, CIAN initiated a new business activity - environmental protection. In 1996, supported by the Croatian Government, CIAN bought two 'eco-ships' and signed a contract with the Croatian Government or guarding and protecting the Adriatic Sea. Since then, CIAN has developed into a large company involved in environmental protection along the coast and inland as well. CIAN is also involved in collecting, sorting, and storing of hazardous wastes, including chemicals, waste oils, industrial oily waters, slops from ship engine rooms, oil filter sludge, etc. The National Strategy for Environmental Protection recommends that a series of Regional Centers be established for collecting, storing, pre-treating and treating oily wastes, including oily waters from ships and industrial systems, used motor oils, sludges, etc. To take advantage of this market, CIAN opened its own oily waste treatment center in late 2004. Moreover, CIAN has a contract with Hrvatske Vode, the national company for water protection, to cleanup spills and leaks of hydrocarbons and other hazardous materials.
