Conference on the Weights and Measures of the United States (15th)-1922

The report presents proceedings of the Fifteenth Annual Conference on the Weights and Measures of the United States held at the Bureau of Standards in Washington, DC on May 23-26, 1922. The report contains an address memorializing Louis Albert Fischer, reports of state delegates, a paper on experiences in enforcing sales-by-weight legislation and the elimination of the dry measure, and an address by Secretary of Commerce Herbert Hoover. It also includes presentations on protection of highways by means of portable weighing devices, divergence of requirements affecting milk bottles, Wisconsin equipment for testing heavy capacity scales, and experiences in testing leather-measuring machines. In addition the report contains a paper on wholesale deliveries of gasoline (with special reference to vehicle tanks); presentations on the history of legislation in regard to approval of type, manufacturers attitude toward approval of type and the relationship between weights and measures officials, merchants, and manufacturers; and papers on difficulties encountered by manufacturers of precision standards due to nonuniform requirements and evaporation of gasoline from delivery hose of liquid-measuring devices.
