摘要

This report is intended to assist the Air Force in developing power-supply standards for transistorized airborne electronic equipments. It is the desire of the Air Force to avoid a repetition of the present supply-vol¬tage profusion that exists in vacuum-tube electronic equipments. This re¬port shows that the large number of voltages required by vacuum tubes is the result of the rapid growth of the electronics industry.nAn 18-volt, (regulated) direct-current power supply has been chosen as a tentative standard for use with transistorized equipments. Several factors contribute to the selection of this value. Among them are:n(a)tThe 18 volts is readily obtainable from the 28-volt bus through a suitable regulator.n(b)Transistors operate satisfactorily on low input voltages.n(b)tThe circuitry required for an 18-volt power supply is uncom-plicated.n(c)tAn 18-volt power supply would function equally well from various sources of primary power. It would be adaptable to aircraft, vehicular, and battery power sources.
