IMPROVEMENT OF THE PROTECTIVE PROPERTIED OF NYLON ARMOR FABRICS THROUGH FINISHING TREATMENTS

A variety of conventional and special finishing treatments given a number of nylon armor fabrics of the basketweave construction are de¬scribed. In all cases but one, the basic fabric samples, using 5-ply yarn, with 210-denier singles, were intended to conform to the weight and other requirements of Specification MIL-C-12369 (QMC), or its re vision MIL-C-12369A (QMC). In addition to the standard yarn and fabric tests, and the ballistic acceptance test, tests of the following special properties were used in the evaluations of the finished fabrics: (a), bursting strength, (b) yarn pull-cut force, (c) fabric stiffness, and (d) air permeability.
