A NEW THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY LEAK DETECTOR AND ITS APPLICATIONS

This report points out the reasons for the failure of the Pirani tube as a sensitive leak detector and describes a simple thermal conductivity apparatus of special design having several advantages over the mass spectrometer so widely used for this purpose. Procedures are described for using the new apparatus to locate leaks in vacuum or pressure systems using hydrogen or helium as probe gas.
