A thermal shield fabricated from neoprene-coated Fortisan (experimental protective poncho material) when placed six inches in front of test subject, will completely protect the hot-wet uniform against 2k cal/ cm2 received from a nuclear explosion. It will reduce injury to bare skin from 4+ or 5+ to 2+ or 3+ burns;and, in limited instances, it will pro¬vide complete protection against 2k cal/cm2.
