Water Loss Investigation at Elephant Butte Reservoir

This investigation deals with a study to determine evaporation loss from Elephant Butte Reservoir, New Mexico, during the period of August through December, 1963. The heat-budget method was used to determine the evaporation from reservoir surface. The accumulative evaporation for this period was 23.119 inches. The Cummings Radiation Integrators were also used to observe evaporation. The average accumulative evaporation from the Cummings Radiation Integrators was 27.125 inches for this period. The net radiation, as computed from Cummings Radiation Integrator A and from radiation observation, shows mediocre correlation. Results of relative humidity obtained from the thermocouple psychrometer were compared with the results from a direct relative humidity indicator by making a least-squares analysis.
