Theoretical and Practical Aspects of the Evaluation of Candidate Reverse Osmosis Membranes for Desalination

摘要

A detailed theoretical description of the reverse osmosis process is presented to enable the proper characterization of a candidate reverse osmosis membrane in terms of its intrinsic permeability and permselective properties. Experimental test methods and conditions are then suggested for determining these intrinsic properties and hence evaluating the membrane's potential as an effective reverse osmosis desalination membrane.
