Love Waves and the Crust-Upper Mantle Structure of the Southwestern United States

The theory of normal mode Love wave propagation in multilayered media was extended to compute surface excitations and theoretical seismograms due to a horizontal point force. The theory can be applied to compute phase velocities from a single station record. Theoretical dispersion curves and excitation functions of the first four modes of Love waves have been computed for the Earth model of Gutenberg, and for the crust-upper mantle model. (Author)
