Investigation of Additive Effects on Id-2 Wearing Mixtures

This report is principally a presentation of data collected on the effects of the addition of additives, of various types, on the physical properties of the Pennsylvania ID-2 wearing course mixture. Thirteen additives were investigated which included mineral fillers, rubber and polyethylene compounds. Each additive was investigated at three percentage levels and each of these combinations at three asphalt contents. In most cases, increased amounts of asphalt decreased Marshall stabilities and the percentage of air more than an increase in the percentage of additive did. Other properties reported are the percent mineral voids, percent mineral voids filled with asphalt, specific gravity and the flow value. (BPR abstract)
