SIMULATION OF A NATURAL-AIR CORN DRYING SYSTEM

The project to evaluate natural air grain drying systems was undertaken with the support of the Indiana Electric Association after study by Mr. L. W. McConnell, Indiana and Michigan Electric Company, had shown the possibility of successful natural-air shelled-corn drying in Indiana. His farm tests with ear corn were encouraging, and his calculations for a constant average October temperature and relative humidity showed possible feasibility.nThe question of results in a non-average year (as most are) suggested experimentation. Field experiments could test only one year's weather at a time so computer simulation was suggested for a feasibility study over several years of weather data, harvest moisture contents, and dryer design.
