Effect of Rubomycin C on Production of Hemagglutinins in Animals with Transplanted Tumors

In animals with inoculated ascitic forms of tumors, with the development of severe generalized diseases the immunological reactivity of the organism diminishes rapidly and abruptly. In animals with inoculated non-metastasizing tumors the depression of immunological reactivity occurs later. The antineoplastic antibiotic rubomycin C is a strong immunodepressor and it has therefore two different actions on immunogenesis in animals with inoculated tumors. On the one hand it depresses immunogenesis and on the other it inhibits the development of blastomatous disease and thus retards the depression of immunological reactivity of the organism under the influence of the tumorous process. In animals in which the immunological reactivity of the organism is greatly depressed by the development of the blastomatous disease, in those cases in which the disease responds to the treatment, rubomycin C act favorably on immunogenesis. The stronger is the therapeutic effect of this antibiotic, the greater is the immunological reactivity in animals treated with it, compared to the untreated animals. In animals with inoculated tumors treated with rubomycin C the immunological reactivity is always reduced in comparison to that of normal animals which did not receive this antibiotic. (Author)
