Toxicology of Plastic Devices Having Contact with Blood Acute and Subacute Toxicity of Di(2-Ethylhexyl) Phthalate in Dogs.

A single dose of 30, 100, 300,and 1000mg/kg of di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate was administered to beagles. A dose of 1000mg/kg caused death of one of two dogs the day following the day of dosage. Toxic signs included increased respiration,decreased activity,and emesis. A repeated dose of 50, 100, 300,and 500mg/kg/day of di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate was administered to beagles for 14days. One of two dogs which received 300mg/kg/day died on the fourth day of dosing. The two dogs which received 500mg/kg/day died on the day following the fourth and eighth day of dosing,respectively. Toxic signs included increased respiration,decreased activity,and emesis.
