A Study of Synthetic Polyeptides for Hemodialysis Membranes.

摘要

Polymethyl-D-glutamate hemodialysis membranes have been prepared and are undergoing clinical evaluation. This membrane has a favorable transport rate for the middle molecular weight molecules compared to Cuprophan,excellent mechanical properties,and good blood compatibility. The conditions for large scale production of the membrane have been studied the effect of some process variables on membrane responses have been observed. Clinical trials have been initiated with two patients selected from the stable clinical population that has been established and characterized for this purpose. The preliminary results appear promising,however it will be necessary to evaluate the patient response over long-term exposure to this experimental membrane for valid conclusions to be ascertained. Additional patients are being maintained in a stable clinical state for expansion of the clinical trials to study the effects of long term use of the membranes in hemodialysis.
