Analysis of the Products of Thermal Decomposition of an Aromatic Polyamide Fabric

Results are presented of a study undertaken to characterize an aromatic polyamide used in the interior of wide-bodied commercial jet aircraft, and to identify the products of degradation resulting from pyrolysis, oxidative degradation, and combustion. The low-boiling volatile products resulting from pyrolysis included carbon monoxide, methane, carbon dioxide, and nitrous oxide.
