ATWS:A REAPPRAISAL PART II EVALUATION OF SOCIETAL RISKS DUE TO REACTOR PROTECTION SYSTEM FAILURE VOL. 2 BWR FAULT TREE EVALUATION

This document, on project 767, is the second volume of a two-volume study concerning potential risk due to reactor protection system (RPS) failure in a BWR. It contains a detailed description of the re-evaluation and expansion of the WASH-1400 (1) BWR RPS fault tree. Although the WASH-1400 analysis is basically sound this work examines details of the RPS evaluation to assure perception. The new results for RPS unavailability show that the median value is now approximately a factor of six smaller than that in WASH-1400 and the mean value an order of magnitude smaller.
