A Revision of 'Saturnius' Manter, 1969 (Hemiuridae: Bunocotylinae) with Descriptions of Two New Species from the Striped Mullet.

The number of species of Saturnius, all from Mugil cephalus, increases from one to four. Two new species, S. maurepasi from the Gulf of Mexico and S. papernai from the Mediterranean Sea, occurred primarily under the lining of the fish's pyloric stomach. Bunocotyle mugilis Yamaguti, 1970, is transferred to Saturnius as the new combination S. mugilis. Of the several differences among species, the shape of the oral sucker permits the easiest separation. The sucker of S. segmentatus possesses 10 large papillae, and that of S. papernai resembles a thicksided cup with a flared anterior border. The other two species have suckers more circular in outline, but S. maurepasi possesses a minute ridge or thickening about the equatorial circumference, whereas S. mugilis has a thickened basal portion.
