摘要

A knowledge of the optical properties of water has been important in recent years for purposes of application to (1) the computation of radiation transport through an atmosphere of water droplets and other aerosols and through oceans containing hydrosols, (2) the development of optical remote sensing instruments for measuring the chemical and thermal quality of environmental waters and for mesuring the water content of soils, (3) the computation of the optical properties of plant leaves,and (4) investigations of optical properties of aqueous solutions. This investigation of the absorption of electromagnetic radiation by water in the 418-640nm wavelength region attempts to use the advantageous combination of a large absorption path length and the high intensity of a wavelength tuneable organic dye laser to reduce experimental errors resulting from the relatively low absorption in this region.
