摘要

The National Head and Spinal Cord Injury Survey (Supplement to the Journal of Neurosurgery, November 1980) was a large-scale effort to obtain statistics on the incidence, prevalence, and economic costs of injuries to the head or spinal cord. Eligibility in the survey was restricted to individuals admitted to a hospital for inpatient care as a result of a physical injury (except birth trauma) caused by an external, mechanical force. A three-stage sampling plan was put into effect, and it led to a random sample from which statistics (with associated measures of precision) were produced for the United States. This document reports on a special investigation to consider the implications of periodically re-doing the survey using methods and procedures developed for the original work.
