Laboratory Animal Management: Wild Birds

摘要

This report provides information on the care and use of birds in captivity as research animals. Wild birds have been used in biomedical and ecological investigations. They tend to be active during the day and are easy to observe. Their use in research is increasing steadily. This report is designed to provide a generally sound basis for developing management programs that will be applicable to many species of wild birds that are utilized in the laboratory. Chapters cover: procurement and identification; housing; nutrition; health of birds and personnel; reproduction in confinement; and surgical procedures.
