The research described in this report centers on the analysis of acceleration/intensity correlations used in the seismic design of nuclear power plants and other critical structures. The primary objectives of the study have been to identify the significant physical variables affecting the correlations and to assess their importance with regard to the definition of seismic risk in the Eastern U.S. The analysis has been carried out using a new,worldwide data sample compiled for this study from data measured from nearly 1500strong motion accelerograms. This new data sample has been extensively analyzed using a variety of statistical models.
