Antiserum Preparation for Immunodiffusion in Southern Pine Beetle Predation Studies

An anti-adult southern pine beetle serum was produced by subcutaneous injection of rabbits with southern pine beetle (SPB) adult antigen. Initial tests demonstrated the ability of the anti-adult SPB serum to detect adult SPB antigen in the body of the adult predator, Thanasimus dubius (F). Cross reactivity was found between the anti-adult serum and extracts of immature stages of Dendroctonus frontalis.
