Rigid Pipe Proof Testing Under Excess Overfills with Varying Backfill Parameters. Section V (Volume 2) - Effective Densities Calculated from Interpolated, Unmodified, Measured Normal Tractions
'Effective density' profiles were calculated from normal tractions interpolated between soil stressmeters at the outer periphery of the Cross Canyon, reinforced concrete culvert. 'Effective density' is the hypothetical density of an embankment material required to produce, under hydrostatic conditions, a measured soil stress under the measured overfill at the meter. Aside from the interpolations no adjustments have been made in the data. The normal tractions from which these 'densities' have been derived will not, in general, satisfy static equilibrium considerations in the pipe.
