The plant is not ideal for an industrial hygiene survey even though huge quantities of paint are used, painters do not use respirators, and the process is continuous. The workers in the spray booths are well spaced and automatic paint spray application equipment keeps employee exposure to overspray to a minimum. The booths seem to eliminate potential for exposure to paint. The stability of this workforce makes the General Motors Plant an appropriate one for an epidemiological study of automotive OEM.
